About stereotypes and stories

Following our talk yesterday about the way we see the Other, in our case, of the African view from the west, here’s an interesting TED talk.
“Our lives, our cultures, are composed of many overlapping stories. Novelist Chimamanda Adichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice — and warns that if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding.”

* After listening to this great talk we can now say that Captain Delano is certainly one of the Americans with a “default position of patronizing, well-meaning, pity”.

    • I have to recognize that in Spain we have lots of single stories… We are very likely to make absolute judgements: black or white, for or against, english or chinese… sorry for that, Alex
